[Certified Facility Introduction] Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho: Community‑Driven Sustainability Blending Playful Brand Identity with Edo Tradition

1. Facility Overview
Located in Tokyo’s Kinshicho district, Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho is a playful lifestyle hotel operated by Marriott. Since opening in 2017, the property has offered a unique space where the front desk and bar are seamlessly integrated. Situated in an area rich with traditional downtown charm, the hotel serves not only as a place to stay but also as a “community hub” that enhances the appeal of the neighborhood.

2. Good Practices
Anchored in its design concept of “NEXT Edo Pop,” the hotel creates sustainable value through both community engagement and food‑related initiatives.
・Community‑Based Environmental Cleanups: While Kinshicho is lively and full of local character, maintaining the area’s appearance has long been a challenge. Listening closely to guest feedback, the hotel collaborates with local businesses and neighborhood associations to conduct regular cleanup activities. These efforts aim to elevate the entire district into a more attractive destination.

・Cultural Preservation Through Local Sourcing: As part of a soft renovation, the hotel introduced menu items featuring local ingredients and traditions—such as Edo‑na smoothies and Edo‑inspired COEDO beer. This creatively embodies Green Key’s principle of supporting local culture and regional specialties in a way that aligns with the Moxy brand.

3. Challenges
Following the installation of new water‑saving equipment, the hotel has identified the importance of ongoing maintenance and monitoring.

・Resource Optimization and Monitoring: Water‑saving valves have been installed in more than 90% of guest rooms, but maintaining their intended performance requires regular measurement by staff. With limited human resources, the key challenge for the second year and beyond is how to efficiently sustain this monitoring process rather than treating installation as a one‑time effort.

4. Message
“As a lifestyle hotel, what we value most is fun. We see Green Key initiatives not as obligations, but as opportunities to help guests discover the charm of the neighborhood through local‑sourcing menus and community engagement. By working hand‑in‑hand with local residents, we will continue striving to make Kinshicho a more beautiful and welcoming place for everyone who visits.”
