For this training, we welcomed Anne de Jong, staff member from theTravelifeheadquarters—marking our first in-person session with headquarters staff since 2019. Ms. de Jong led sessions on the latest international trends, including the EU’s Empowering Consumers Directive (EmpCo) regarding greenwashing, the significance of embracing sustainability, and how we can protect our local communities and destinations. Participants explored ways to foster community building and business operations where local residents, visitors, and operators alike can thrive. It proved to be a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding through international standards and specific case studies from operators across various countries.
Furthermore, the workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders—ranging from travel companies to organizations and individuals active at the community level—enabling lively and broad-perspective discussions.
Additionally, on September 6, the day before the official training, an optional field trip was held. Participants visited the uninhabited island ofNarugashimato observe rare plants and wildlife and interact with local experts. They also visitedShunyoso, a registered tangible cultural property operated by Jarta Representative Director Takayama Suguru. This provided a firsthand experience of Awaji Island’s rich nature, history, and culture, as well as Representative Director Takayama's ongoing initiatives in community development through tourism.
