【Announcement】Travelife Sustainability Training Workshop in Awaji Island (September 7–8) Participants Wanted

This time, the Japan Alliance of Responsible Travel Agencies (JARTA) is holding the "Travelife Training Workshop in Awaji Island" to systematically learn the essence of sustainable tourism.

Set on Awaji Island—the Island of Creation (Kuniumi)—this training offers a valuable opportunity to learn the latest international trends directly. We will welcome Mr. Anne de Jong from the Travelife headquarters (Travelife / The Good Tourism Institute) to deeply explore sustainable destination management and the concrete processes toward achieving certification.

Workshop Highlights

Direct Instruction from Travelife Headquarters Instructor:This is the first visit to Japan by Travelife headquarters staff for training since 2019. Gain insights to apply to your own strategies by learning about the latest international information and the gap between global and Japanese realities.
A "Hands-on" Learning Environment: Experience the climate and culture of Awaji Island as the training venue, and visit "Shunyoso," a Registered Tangible Cultural Property managed by JARTA Representative Director Takashi Takayama, to experience eco-friendly facility management firsthand.
Community Building: A networking space to bring together motivated professionals from the front lines of sustainable tourism across Japan to share cases and challenges, and elevate each other.

Event Overview

Date & Time: Monday, September 7, 2026, 9:30 AM – Tuesday, September 8, 2026, 1:00 PM (2-day classroom session)
Venue: Meeting room in Sumoto City, Awaji Island
Instructor：Anne de Jong氏（The Good Tourism Institute）
対象: Anyone who wishes to understand the essence of sustainable tourism and connect theory with practice (open to everyone)
Fees: 50,000 JPY + consumption tax per person
- Operators registered with Travelife through JARTA may have up to 2 participants free of charge (25,000 JPY + consumption tax per person for the 3rd person onwards)
Language: English (with Japanese interpretation and explanation as appropriate)
What to BringWriting utensils, a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, and a beverage (reusable bottles recommended)

Optional Field Work (September 6)

For those interested, a field trip will be held on Sunday, September 6, the day before the training.

Description: Visit to the uninhabited island of "Narugashima" (observation of rare plants and wildlife), interaction with experts, and a visit to the Registered Tangible Cultural Property "Shunyoso."
Fees: 10,000 JPY + consumption tax per person (includes guide gratuity, Shunyoso visit, and tea/refreshment fee)
